One of the biggest misconceptions about wedding planning is the national average cost for a wedding. If you google that right now it’s just under $30K which is grossly unrealistic in places like California, New York, Hawaii, and the Northeast. So often we have inquiries from couples who refer to this national average and are shocked at the costs of having a wedding in California. There are several factors that affect the overall cost of a wedding wherever you are getting married. These are geographical pricing, fixed costs, and variable costs.

A wedding in a highly desirable location like San Francisco, Napa, Miami, or New York City are naturally going to cost more then let’s say a wedding in Topeka, Kansas. Reasons for this are the cost of living is higher so wages and prices are higher, popularity of destination, and accessibility.

A few examples of fixed costs that are the same price regardless of guest count are things like photography, cinema, and entertainment. This means your guest count has no direct affect on these costs so whether you have a 20 person wedding or 200 person wedding.

Variable costs are directly related to your guest count which means that more guests will increase these costs. These are areas like food, beverage, rentals, florals, transportation (if applicable), hair and makeup, wedding cake or dessert, and stationary.

With that being said, budgeting is a key component and fundamental pillar that needs to be established in the very beginning of wedding planning. We realize not every couple can afford to have a wedding planner from the beginning and so we created a tool that was realistic to current costs (we are based in Northern California) that allows will allow you to adjust the guest count based on your wedding size and tiered within a few categories of budgets which are Economical, Standard, Premium, Luxury, and Ultra Luxury budgets.
